And Everything is Still...
Andy Scott is an endorsee of Selmer Paris Saxophones
Andy Scott is Vice-President of the International Saxophone Committee. The next congress is the World Saxophone Congress 2012 at St Andrews, Scotland
In March 2009 the Dave Hassell-Andy Scott Duo undertook an amazing collaboration with Mexican percussionist Evaristo Aguilar and photographer William Ellis. Travelling deep into the jungle-covered mountains of Mexico, the quartet embarked on a journey that would take them to Las Pozas, home to the late English eccentric and Patron of the Arts, Edward James.
Staying in James' house 'El Castillo' in the nearby town of Xilitia, the quartet would walk each day to Las Pozas, described as a 'Surreal Eden' and spend time playing and recording in the beautiful and dangerous surroundings of soaring edifices of coloured concrete, enormous scuptures of hands, serpents, and exotic flowers, and grand parapets in the sky. Returning to Tampico, two days were spent in a recording studio, resulting with the CD 'Naked Footprints'. Each track is an improvisation that is based upon one of the sculptures or works of art in Las Pozas. Included in the CD sleeve are some of the incredible images that were captured by William.
In mid-February 2010, Evaristo will visit the UK to team up with Dave, William & Andy again, this time presenting concerts and workshops that will feature projected images of Las Pozas, musical improvisations, and an opportunity to gain an insight into life and music of the Huasteca region of Mexico with Evarsito.
Tour dates include a performance on Saturday 27th February 2010 at West Dean Estate, the home in Britain of Edward James.
